Coming of age

It's my hundredth post and it's fitting that it should be about our oldest resident dog, Fly. We all think that Fly has aged incredibly well, considering the hard life she's had. She started off at a mean farmer's farm, where he said she 'was no good'. She was then given to my Dad's uncle, who had enough dogs on his plate. At the time, my Dad was looking for a good dog, and when Fly was offered, he took her.

Within a month, Fly was working sheep perfectly, with Bruce, our other great dog at the time.

In 1999, Fly and Bruce were on the way back home from a job at an out farm in the link box, behind the tractor. When my Dad pulled into the yard and got out, he found Bruce and Fly in a tie. Two months later, Fly had puppies. They were so adorable! We already had enough dogs, so we didn't keep any of them. I believe one of them ended up being called 'Teddy'.

Now there's a bit of a gap, because I didn't have a camera, and for some reason we didn't take any pictures of beautiful Fly.

Fly has aged very well and we are proud of her. She's been through so much, but she can still crack a smile.

Relaxing in the yard last Summer, Fly is still a happy dog.

Kim couldn't care less that it's my hundredth post.

Can you hear youself?

She doesn't understand care that this is a milestone in blogging.

Ooooooooooooooh... hole...

Kim, don't do that! You'll get stuck.

Uhh... little help?

And that photo wasn't a set up - she really did get a branch impossibly stuck in her lead's cleak.

Am I the only one who cares that this is my hundredth post?!

Yes! Now let me... *YAWN* ...get some sleep!
Ben - he's bound to care...

I can't care... because you've only gone and put me on the wall.

This morning, though, Ben did take a look at Brenda...

Are you... a sheep?

There's hope in the 'ol dog yet!

  1. Congratulations! Wow, is Fly still working or has she retired? I am an older dog myself so I certainly admire her long career and life! Great job!

  2. That's great that Fly still works part time! Our neighbors had a border collie for many years. We live in the city and I always felt bad that she didn't have any sheep or a big yard. She used to come over to our yard and herd me around - it was pretty funny!

  5. If I added my numbers right and Fly was 8 in 2001, Fly is 17 years old!?! We have a Border Collie cross, Gabby, who is 14 yrs old and she is happy and healthy. Hope she is with as as long as Fly.

    Gabby appreciates your 100th post.
